Why an IBCLC?

Why I, as an IBCLC, Am Here to Support Your Breastfeeding Journey

As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), my goal is to help you navigate the rewarding but sometimes challenging world of breastfeeding. Whether you’re struggling with a poor latch, low milk supply, or just feeling overwhelmed, I’m here to provide the expert support and reassurance you need to feel confident and successful.

What I Can Do for You

  • Latch Issues: Assess and correct baby’s latch to reduce discomfort and improve milk transfer.
  • Milk Supply Concerns: Offer strategies to boost milk supply or troubleshoot low supply.
  • Pain Management: Help with sore nipples, engorgement, or other breastfeeding-related pain.
  • Positioning: Provide tips for comfortable and effective breastfeeding positions for both mom and baby.
  • Breastfeeding Challenges: Address challenges like nipple confusion, tongue-tie, or breast refusal.
  • Pump Guidance: Teach proper pumping techniques and help establish a pumping routine if you're returning to work.
  • Feeding Plans: Assist with creating personalized feeding plans for exclusive breastfeeding or combination feeding.
  • Preterm & NICU Support: Help with breastfeeding or expressing milk for premature babies or those in the NICU.
  • Weaning: Provide guidance when transitioning off breastfeeding to solid foods or formula.
  • Emotional Support: Offer encouragement, reassurance, and non-judgmental support throughout your journey.
  • Education: Educate on the benefits of breastfeeding, proper technique, and nutrition for both mom and baby.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues like overactive letdown, plugged ducts, or mastitis.
  • Postpartum Recovery: Support with healing after childbirth and any breastfeeding-related complications.
  • Specialized Advice: Offer guidance on breastfeeding with specific conditions, such as inverted nipples, flat nipples, or PCOS.
  • & More!

The Impact of Lactation Support

  • Higher Breastfeeding Rates: Studies show that mothers who work with an IBCLC are 1.5 times more likely to breastfeed for at least six months.
  • Extended Breastfeeding Duration: With my help, you’re more likely to breastfeed exclusively at 3 and 6 months, giving your baby the best start.
  • Improved Milk Supply: If you’re struggling with your milk supply, I will review your medical history, assess breastfeeding, and help you get to the bottom of what's going on.
  • Health Benefits for You and Your Baby: Breastfeeding lowers the risk of infections, asthma, and obesity in your baby, while also reducing your risk of certain cancers and aiding postpartum recovery.

Why My Support Matters

  • Judgment-Free Zone: I’m here to provide help without any pressure or judgment. You’re not alone, and it’s okay to ask for help.
  • Boosting Your Confidence: My goal is to empower you with the knowledge and tools to feel confident in your breastfeeding journey.
  • Emotional Support: Breastfeeding can be emotional and challenging at times. I’m here to offer both practical and emotional support to keep you going.

What about other healthcare professionals?

  • Specialized Care and Expertise

If you're having heart issues you'll schedule with a cardiologist. A dermatologist specializes in skin conditions. Your ENT can help you with conditions of the ear, nose and throat. Consider IBCLCs the top-tier of specialized breastfeeding support. Our entire focus is on lactation- the breast, the baby, the mother, the family, and how it all works together.

  • A unique opportunity

As an IBCLC I have such a unique honor. Other healthcare professionals have tight time restraints, must see you in-office, and only focus on either the mother OR the baby. IBCLCs are focused on the dyad- that is- the mother-baby unit. Your baby is still very much part of you and that's at the forefront of my care.

Bottom Line: I’m Here for You

As an IBCLC, I’m dedicated to helping you achieve your breastfeeding goals, whatever they may be. My support is about making your journey smoother and less stressful, so you can focus on what matters most — bonding with your baby. If you’re struggling or just need reassurance, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to help!
